Join us for a 2-3 mile urban hike as we journey through Huntsville’s rich history through the stories and knowledge of William Hampton, local historian and founder of Huntsville Revisited. Beginning at Glenwood Cemetery, we will head towards Downton Huntsville stopping at historical markers.

About the event

Did you know that Glenwood Cemetery Huntsville’s oldest surviving African-American burial ground. Glenwood is the resting place of people born slaves, emancipated, and who lived out the remainder of their days in the separate-but-equal south. Buried here are people of great accomplishment, including doctors, educators, clergymen, political leaders and artisans. Tombstones identify those who fought in America’s war, men who risked their lives in defense of a nation that denied their civil rights. We will meet at Glenwood and jorunry through a portion of Huntsville Black History headed towards downtown and back to Glenwood.
